Dr Dominik Mock from the Institute of Mineralogy has been awarded the 2022 Dissertation Prize of the Franco-German University (DFH). The prize, which is awarded annually, was presented on 26 January 2023 at the French Embassy in Berlin. The Franco-German University (DFH) has already supported Mr Mock's stays of several months at the French partner university Université de Montpellier. With the dissertation prize, Mr Mock is now being honoured by the DFH for the high quality of his scientific research as well as for his exceptional commitment alongside his doctorate.
Mr Mock's dissertation entitled "Magmatic Processes at Various Scales in the Lower Oceanic Crust of the Samail Ophiolite (Sultanate of Oman)" was written as part of a cotutelle de thèse in cooperation with the Université de Montpellier. Mr Mock is concerned with the petrology of the lower oceanic crust. The results of his dissertation answer basic scientific questions about the formation of the oceanic crust and at the same time provide starting points for applied aspects such as the storage of CO2 in deep rock formations
