About the FZ:GEO
„Exploring the earth from different perspectives.“
This is made possible by the successful cooperation of geosciences and environmental sciences with engineering and computer science within the Leibniz Research Centre FZ:GEO. The aim of the research centre at Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) is to create a platform for interdisciplinary research and teaching in subjects related to the earth sciences and to make relevant contributions to pressing issues facing humanity (Grand Challenges), many of which are geo-related (e.g. global change, sustainable use of resources, natural hazards). Due to the complexity of the problems, these can only be tackled in an interdisciplinary manner. The key to this lies in the unique combination of different disciplines and methods.
The issues are dealt with in close cooperation between geoscientists on the one hand and engineers and computer scientists on the other. In addition to the institutes at LUH, the central research and service institutions at federal and state level BGR, LIAG, LBEG and LGLN as well as strong partners from industry are of decisive importance and contribute to Hannover's special position as one of the leading locations for geological research in Germany.
