LIAG-Seminar: Simulation of georeservoir conditions on rock samples using HT/HP laboratory equipment

Abstract:

Understanding the mechanical, thermal and hydraulic properties of rocks at different depths is crucial for several geo-engineering applications, such as geothermal energy development, carbon capture and storage, and nuclear waste repositories. One of the most important properties to be investigated is the permeability of georeservoir rocks. While previous studies focused on the effect of one single variable on permeability (usually the effective pressure), hardly the effect of multiple variables, thus simulating georeservoir conditions in terms of both pressures and temperatures, are investigated. Thanks to stateof-art HT/HP laboratory equipment, we filled this gap by studying the permeability evolution of both intact and fractured Bentheim sandstone at different simulated depths.
